A true “Old World” Flake White has been uncovered by a stroke of good fortune. Due to the fact that the only manufacturer of lead white is shutting down production because of low demand, the pigment for my original formulation of Flake White is quickly running out. The good news is that the Flemish White will do things that the original Flake White could not. This white can do ANYTHING once you know how to adjust it, if needed, using various additives. It is available in jars, cans, and tubes. In its natural state, it has a long ropey quality. You can thin it with Copal or Balsam and paint dry, day to day. It is luminous, refractive, opaque, and will not yellow like many other versions of Flake White. Due to the sensation this white has caused in the painting community, many other manufacturers have tried to create similar products. This is the original.
